Master’s funding in the US, Canada, and Europe

Where graduate funding actually sits for Ghanaian master’s applicants: assistantships, tuition gaps, public Europe, and visa proof of means.

Updated 2026-08-18

Master’s funding is not undergraduate need-based aid with a longer beard. Committees, faculties, and immigration rules treat graduate money as a mix of tuition policy, labour (assistantships), and proof of means. Ghanaian applicants lose years by applying the undergraduate rumour to a taught master’s.

United States

Some research programmes fund. Many taught master’s do not. Engineering, sciences, and some public health tracks may have assistantships. A one-year business master’s is often a full-pay product. A ranking screenshot is not a funding letter.

If aid exists, it arrives as a written offer. We will not tell a visa officer that ‘they usually add something later’. The I-20 will already have printed a number.

GRE or GMAT can matter for some funded tracks and matter zero for others. We will not sell a test as a lucky charm.

Canada

Entrance awards exist and are often partial. Research master’s can include stipends. Taught professional programmes frequently assume you pay. IRCC still wants to see that you can hold yourself for the first period the instructions name. A small scholarship that leaves a large gap is a gap.

Partner-college discounts are marketing. They are not a national scholarship programme. Read how agents are paid if the only schools on your list are the ones an agency ‘represents’.

Europe

Germany’s public tuition can be low. The blocked account is not. The Netherlands prices more like Northern Europe’s actual rents. France mixes public and private invoices that should never be compared in one screenshot. The UK bills like the US without always funding like a US research PhD.

Erasmus Mundus and a handful of named scholarships are real and competitive. They have their own calendars. They are not a back door for a weak transcript.

Visa maths

Every destination needs the remaining cost to be visible. A ‘partial scholarship’ that covers 20 percent of a 40,000 dollar year still needs 32,000 dollars of explainable money. Officers add. Parents should add before the consult, not after the refusal.

What we do

We treat funding as a design constraint on the school list. We chase the awards the file can actually touch. We itemise third-party costs so a parent sees cash, not a slogan. Fees for our work are separate from tuition.

If you are applying for a master’s, start with master’s counsel and book a consult with the transcript. We can talk ranking after we have read the paper.

If this is your file, the next step is a consult.

We assume you have read. We will not repeat the guide as a speech.
