Most delays in a Ghanaian study-abroad file are not mysterious. They are missing paper. This list is the boring spine. Country portals add extras. We will name those extras when the destination is named.
Do not send original certificates in a first WhatsApp. Scans are enough until a school or embassy says otherwise.
Identity
A passport with enough validity. If you do not have one, start that process before you fall in love with a January intake. A national ID is useful. It is not a passport.
Passport photos to the specification the portal names. The US, UK, and Schengen crops are not interchangeable folklore.
Academic
WASSCE results or sitting details. School transcripts, term by term if you have them. For master’s applicants, the bachelor’s transcript and certificate, plus any NYSC or employment letters that explain a gap.
Certified copies matter for some European routes. Ghanaian universities are not always fast. Ask early.
Translations are required when a document is not in the language the authority named. A cousin’s informal English is not a translation.
English and other tests
IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo, SAT, GRE, GMAT: only those the shortlist named. Book dates that leave room for a retake. A test two days before a hard deadline is a hobby.
Money
Bank statements with a history, not a spike. Sponsor letters that match the accounts. Employment and pay evidence for the sponsor. Scholarship award letters on institutional letterhead. Property documents if a family will use them, knowing some destinations care and some barely do.
We will not file a manufactured statement. If the honest money is short, the school list must change. That is counsel.
Medical and police
TB tests for some UK cases, only at clinics on the live GOV.UK list. See the UK visa and TB guide. Police reports when a country asks. Vaccination records for housing or campus health, later. Do not collect a suitcase of medical paper ‘just in case’ before the destination is fixed.
Digital hygiene
One folder. Clear file names. PDFs that open. Images that are not taken at an angle in a trotro. Officers and admissions staff are human. They stop trying when the zip file is a mess.
What we do with this
In a Western Shores engagement, the checklist is part of the $1,000 processing work. We tell you what is missing in week one. Book a consult and list what you already have. It is the fastest way to hear whether this cycle is real.
