A UK student visa from Ghana is not a stamp you buy in Osu. It is a sequence: admission, CAS, TB certificate from a clinic the Home Office named, funds that have been sitting still, then the application. Skip a step and the file looks like a rumour.
Western Shores prepares the academic work and the visa folder. We do not run the clinic. We do not decide the visa. Confirm fees and clinic names on GOV.UK’s Ghana TB page before you pay anyone.
When a TB test is required
If you are coming to the UK for more than six months, and you have lived in Ghana (or another listed country) for six months or more, you generally need a tuberculosis test. Student visas sit in that bucket. A private hospital X-ray that is not on the Home Office list will not do. They say so in plain English.
Book at least ten weeks before travel. If the chest X-ray is unclear, sputum culture can take weeks. A CAS that expires while you wait for culture is how intakes slip.
The certificate is typically valid for six months. Do not sit the test a year early to “get it out of the way.”
Where to go in Ghana
As of the April 2026 GOV.UK update, approved places have included Akai House Clinic in Cantonments, Globe Health Assessment Clinic in Legon, UN-IOM Migration Health Assessment Centre in Airport Residential (and Kumasi), and Wellnest Ghana Limited in Accra and Kumasi. Names, addresses, and fees move. Read the live list the week you book.
Bring a passport or photo ID, a copy, the fee, and the UK and Ghana addresses they ask for. Say it is for a UK visa. Walk-in culture varies by clinic. Call.
We will not quote a 2019 IOM PDF as the current price. Clinic fees on GOV.UK have been in cedis and have changed more than once in 2026.
After the CAS
You need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies from a licensed sponsor. Then the student visa application wants:
- The CAS number
- The TB certificate, if required
- Maintenance funds for the period the rules name, held in the way the rules name
- The Immigration Health Surcharge, paid as part of the application
- A tuberculosis-clear story that matches the rest of the file
Holding-period rules for money are not a suggestion. A relative’s deposit last Tuesday is a classic problem. Read documents Ghanaian students need.
Dependants
Most taught undergraduate and master’s routes no longer match the old spouse-and-child story. Do not budget for a family visa as a default. If your course is a narrow exception, the consult will say so.
Timeline from Accra
- School list and applications. See study in the UK.
- Offer, then CAS.
- TB appointment at an approved clinic.
- Visa application and biometrics through the current UK service in Ghana.
- Decision. Then, if granted, our second fee. See fees.
Do not book a TB slot before the CAS is real unless the clinic’s wait and the CAS expiry leave you no choice. We will do that maths with you.
What we will not do
We will not send you to an unlisted lab because it is cheaper. We will not coach a funds story that is not the account. We will not guarantee a visa.
If the UK is the destination, book a consult with the offer or the shortlist, not with a screenshot of a clinic.
